Island Labs now offers In-House EMC Seminars

Island Labs is now offering in-house seminars on PCB design for EMC Compliance. These seminars are offered in-house for firms that are looking to optimize their design processes.

A typical seminar includes a full overview of several specific tests performed at an EMC laboratory, which establishes a framework for discussing important implications for PCB design techniques. Island Labs can also undertake a comprehensive review of a product and use it as a case study within the seminar.

Island Labs owner Andy Eadie said, “When electromagnetic compliance is critical to your business or to your clients' business, you need to incorporate design for compliance from the outset of every project.”

Island Labs, Vancouver Island's first and only EMC test facility has officially opened its doors for business. The independent laboratory was conceptualized in response to demand from the local design community for an on island testing solution.

"This is a big step forward for the Vancouver Island tech community. We are excited to be able to offer FCC, Industry Canada and CE Mark testing services to a wide range of industries including consumer, wireless, power, medical, scientific, military, industrial and marine.", said owner, Andy Eadie. "Our customers can save the time and cost of a ferry or flight to the mainland knowing that they are also helping to support the local economy. This is really a win-win for the Island."

Island Labs has been investing in the specialized test equipment required for EMC testing and can now perform radiated and conducted emissions measurements as well as immunity testing to European standards. In addition, Island Labs also offers a comprehensive EMC design review service to maximize the chances of a product passing tests first time around.

Bruce Balston, who has previously worked in 3 of BC's EMC labs has recently joined Island Labs in the capacity of EMC engineer.

Lab Set-Up

Island Labs is excited to be moving ahead with equipment purchasing and preparation of the 3m/10m Open Air Test Site. Thanks to the great input from many design companies on the island, we now have a sound understanding of the EMC testing and certification requirements of our future customers.

Island Labs has successfully secured financing for the start-up phase and is in the process of sourcing test equipment. We're scheduled to open in November 2010, but that is dependent on our hiring requirements. Keep an eye on this news feed for status updates... we look forward to serving you!
